How to remove yourself from FamilyTreeNow
A plain-English walk-through of opting out of FamilyTreeNow (familytreenow.com): what to expect, the free steps in order, how long it can take and why you should check again later.

What FamilyTreeNow shows about you
FamilyTreeNow presents itself as a free genealogy site, but it also works as a people-search site: a name and location search can return details about living people. It has an opt-out that runs through its own footer link, with an email confirmation at the end.
A listing there can include your full name, date of birth, age, current and past addresses, possible relatives and possible associates, according to DeleteMe's description of what free reports can contain. The exact fields vary from person to person, and the free view usually shows less than a paid one.
How we checked this guide
FamilyTreeNow blocked our automated access, so we could not read its opt-out page ourselves. The steps below come from DeleteMe's published FamilyTreeNow guide, which we read on October 31, 2026. We could not cross-check it against a second source, so follow the on-screen prompts where the site differs. Last checked October 31, 2026.
How to remove yourself from FamilyTreeNow for free
The free route is the one to try first. Here are the steps, in order. The official address is familytreenow.com (Do Not Sell My Personal Information link in the footer).
- Go to familytreenow.com, scroll to the footer and click Do Not Sell My Personal Information.
- Find the section on publicly available records and the How to delete heading under it, and click the opt out link.
- On the Opt Out of Records page, enter an email address (DeleteMe suggests a temporary one), complete the captcha and click Begin Opt Out Procedure.
- On the opt-out search page, enter your details and search.
- Find the profile that matches you and click View Details.
- Click Opt Out This Record. The site then emails you a link to complete the request.
- Open the email, checking spam if needed, and click the link. DeleteMe's guide says the link expires within 24 hours.
- Repeat for any other records of yours that appear, then search again after a few days.
Use a dedicated email address for this and not your main one, and do not send a copy of your ID unless you have confirmed you are on the real site and there is no other way. Keep a spreadsheet with the date and the listing address for each request.
How long does FamilyTreeNow removal take?
We could not find a processing time published by FamilyTreeNow, and DeleteMe's guide does not give one either, so we will not quote one. Check back after a few days and repeat if the listing is still live.
Things to know before you start
- DeleteMe's guide notes that an opt-out may not be permanent, because sites like this collect from public sources and might republish a profile. Re-check from time to time.
- Each record is opted out separately, so people with several listings will repeat the last steps more than once.
- FamilyTreeNow's genealogy content (historical records) is a separate matter from living-people listings. This guide covers living-people records only.
Will your FamilyTreeNow listing come back?
It can. People-search sites build listings from public records and purchased data, and they refresh that data. If your information shows up in a new batch, a listing you removed can be created again. We are not aware of a reliable published figure for how often that happens, so be suspicious of anyone who quotes one.
A sensible routine is to search for yourself a few weeks after your request, then every few months. If you move, change your phone number or buy a home, expect new records. The same record also sits on many other sites, so clearing FamilyTreeNow does not clear the rest. Our guide to removing personal information from the internet covers the other sites, Google results and the legal tools that exist where you live.
If you would rather not do it yourself
Doing this by hand across many sites, then repeating it, is tedious. Data-removal services sell that repetition as a subscription. One of them is DeleteMe, the service we link, and we earn a commission if you sign up through the links marked Affiliate link. We have not tested DeleteMe, and the details below come from DeleteMe's own pages as we read them on October 30, 2026.
DeleteMe publishes a FamilyTreeNow opt-out guide and says it can remove people from sites like it on their behalf, but we could not confirm from DeleteMe's pages which plans cover FamilyTreeNow. Check DeleteMe's current list before you buy.
- What it says it does: you give it your details, and according to its site its team searches hundreds of data brokers and people-search sites, submits opt-out and removal requests and keeps monitoring and removing your information regularly, all year long.
- Price: DeleteMe's help center describes the solo plan as about $11 a month, billed annually at $129, for one person for one year. Plans renew automatically unless you cancel, and prices change, so check the live page.
- Our link's discount: the page our US link opens advertises 20% off all privacy protection plans with the code PARTNER20, valid for new members only on USA consumer plans. See the current DeleteMe offer (Affiliate link).
Removal services reduce how easy you are to find. They do not make you anonymous and they do not promise that a listing will never return. If you decide to look at it, see the DeleteMe plans (Affiliate link). If you prefer not to pay, the free steps above are enough to do the job for FamilyTreeNow.

Frequently asked questions
How do I remove myself from FamilyTreeNow?
Use the Do Not Sell My Personal Information link in the site footer, follow the opt out link in the public records section, find your record, click Opt Out This Record and confirm through the email link.
Will my FamilyTreeNow listing come back?
It can. DeleteMe's guide warns that such sites collect from public sources and might republish a profile, so check again periodically.
Does the confirmation link expire?
DeleteMe's guide says the link in the confirmation email expires within 24 hours, so click it promptly.
Is it worth paying someone to remove me from FamilyTreeNow?
It depends on your time and how many sites you want to cover. The free opt-out above works without paying. A service such as DeleteMe, which earns us a commission if you sign up through our link, automates the repetition across many sites, but we have not tested it.
